Hennessy X.O Kim Jones Launch Pushes the Boundaries of Collaborations

Over the years, we’ve gotten used to the idea of Hennessy — the legendary cognac producer and the H of the beloved luxury conglomerate group LVMH — participating in collaborative launches with artists, musicians, and other pop culture note-worthies in order to release limited-edition bottles of the beloved spirit. This latest release with Kim Jones (of Dior and Fendi fame) goes beyond the bottle, pairing it with an exclusive pair of limited edition sneakers known as the HNY Low By Kim Jones.

At first glance, the HNY Low is not flashy or attention-grabbing in the least. A simple rich cognac-coloured nubuck leather is used from tip to tail, with a matching rubber sole. The sole hides the first of its sneaky design cues — the imprint of cognac vines, and the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones logo are placed on its underside, and the Hennessy bras armé emblem discreetly lurks on the heel. The closer you look at the sneaker’s silhouette and design details, the more you’re also likely to notice subtle details that draw inspiration from the X.O bottle that Jones also penned as part of this collab.

The same way the vessel that carries Hennessy’s fine spirits requires detailed attention, the packaging for these limited edition sneakers get an equally rich treatment. The wooden box is made of the same oak that makes the brand’s cognac aging casks, and the shoes come sheathed in cotton dust bags bound by a high-end drawstring, a shape recalling bottles that used to be wrapped in thick paper during travel. This is the same inspiration that flowed into Jones’ X.O Masterpiece decanter (which has the same shape as the X.O bottle seen above).

“When I saw how the vintage Hennessy bottles were wrapped, it spoke volumes to me about how precious each one is, and how they were handled. I was particularly touched by their history, and the sense of how generations have dedicated their time to making each step of the process better and better. That same process also holds true with fashion.” says Jones.

If you are hoping you get your hands on the sneakers — or the Masterpiece decanter, for that matter — you’re best to move fast. Only 200 of the decanters, and an unspecified run of sneakers will be in the market for a limited time only.
