MILL VALLEY
State to close
commuter lot
Caltrans will close the lower half of the Manzanita commuter lot due to the risk of flooding.
The lot will be closed Jan. 17-24 during a predicted high tide. The shoulder parking along Highway 1 also will be closed.
City extends
art deadline
The deadline to submit public art applications has been extended.
The city and the Mill Valley Arts Commission are seeking artists to showcase their art as part of the rotating art in the Depot Plaza program.
The program aims to display local work and beautify the community.
Proposals will be accepted through 5 p.m. Feb. 10. Apply at bit.ly/3I14umx.

Council selects
new leadership
The City Council has appointed Mayor Pro Tem Susan Wernick as the city’s new mayor for 2023. Councilmember Mark Milberg will serve as mayor pro tem. The appointments are for one year.
Wernick was elected to council in 2019. Milberg was first appointed to the council in October 2021 following the resignation of Amy Peele to serve until the November 2022 election. He was reappointed in August for a two-year term when no candidates filed to run for the seat.
The selections were made at a City Council meeting on Dec. 13. Newly elected Councilmember Rachel Farac and incumbent Councilmember Pat Eklund were sworn in for new terms at the meeting.

Bird watching planned
at Las Gallinas ponds
Marin County Parks department will hold a bird watching event Jan. 10.
The walk will be held at the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District treatment ponds at 310 Smith Ranch Road.
The event begins at 10 a.m. Bring a snack and binoculars, if available. No pets except service dogs are allowed.
