Monterey Count police investigating suspicious death of man found dead in center of road
PACIFIC GROVE – Police are still investigating the cause of a suspicious death that occurred in Pacific Grove over the weekend.
Early Saturday morning, just after 2:40 a.m., Pacific Grove Police officers responded to the report of a male lying in the middle of the road with a head injury on Lane Street between Line Street and Eardley Avenue.
Life-saving measures were taken at the scene but proved unsuccessful, police said. Law enforcement launched an investigation into the death. Several nearby roads were temporarily closed while investigators surveyed the scene.
Pacific Grove Police Commander David Santos said Monday he has not heard back from the coroner’s office yet but that he hopes to get more information soon.
Santos said that police are looking into all possible leads. He did say that “it doesn’t look like it was a robbery” but cannot rule out anything else.
Jocelyn Francis, a Pacific Grove police spokeswoman, added that none of the leads have developed any further information as of Monday morning. Asked about the victim’s identity, Francis said further information is pending a report from the coroner’s office. She assured that police have made contact with the victim’s roommates.
