Watch as car veers ‘dangerously’ close to child cyclist in middle of the road – but who’s in the wrong?
A SHOCKING video shows the moment a car veers close to a child cyclist in the middle of the road – but viewers have been left divided.
The clip shared by an anonymous rider’s helmet camera shows the rider and a child in a red coat cruising along the road.
With the child in front, footage then shows a dark blue motor coming towards them with the road narrowed due to parked cars on either side.
As the vehicle passes close to the child, the cameraman can be heard saying “What you doing?”
According to the social media post, the child in question was five and was just 100 metres from his home.
The tweet added: “How can we expect parents to let their kids ride to school if this is how their neighbours drive towards them?

“This is what happens when you don’t provide safe cycling infrastructure around schools or on the way to schools.
“Today it was my child but it could easily have been yours or anyone else.”
The video sparked debate online, with viewers split over who was in the right.
Some believed the motorist didn’t do anything wrong and passed at a reasonable speed.

One user sarcastically said: “You mean it easily could have been my child who safely rode past a moving a car with no issue? Wow!! Hope restored!!”
While another added: “If you’re the parent that puts a five year old as lead rider in wet, dark conditions without hi-vis and lights on the bike, it’s you that needs to have a look at yourself.”
A third slammed the cyclist: “If this is so dangerous why you letting your kid be in front?””
However, some did side with the cyclist, believing the motorist to be in the wrong
They tweeted: “The level of victim blaming in this thread & in the quote tweets would NEVER be tolerated in any other situation. The entitled car culture in the UK is out of control.”
“The child was already out in the road overtaking, the car driver should have waited till he had finished overtaking,” commented another.
And one even believed that both parties were in the wrong.

A Twitter user said: “That driver’s behaviour ought to be prosecutable, but you belong in court with him/her.
“Having your 5-year-old ride on the road when you know that there are drivers like that about is irresponsible, especially if you do so in the hope of obtaining some “near miss” footage.”
