Leeds United Chat • Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 21st October) - Leicester defeat raises questions over Marsch's future
I honestly believe that Marsch team is two players short of being mid table or better.
As soon as I saw Firpo in line up yesterday and realised Cooper was out my heart sank. Particularly as I just managed to turn on the match as they scored the first. As strange as it sounds Firpo is marginally better with Cooper inside him as Cooper effectively instructs him positionally. Without Cooper he looks bewildered.
I have watched the mins preceding the first goal. We were not in any danger and whilst lacking a cutting edge ourselves we we for the most part on top.
To give a goal away in the manner we did is just psychologically painful for the players and fans alike. Mistakes will always happen, human error cannot be completely eradicated. We just seem to suffer the worse form of punishment. What struck me when Roca lost the ball was a lack of urgency by a number of players. It was as if they froze. No one bust a gut ( FIrpo particularly) to try and get back. Now some may say I am over critical of him. Unfortunately they would be right as his inclusion in the team really winds me up as I cannot comprehend just how bad he has to play to get dropped. It really is one of life’s great mysteries why he gets picked when he is available.
His inclusion, presumably to maintain the preferred formation was JM’s biggest phopar last night for me. I can see why he dropped Harrison because him and Firpo together on the left are like two strangers. Sini is a better ball carrier than Harrison.
Bamford /Rodrigo is the other issue we have. Paddy is a good player but he is not suited to the modern game. He would have been fantastic in the 80’s. For me he needs time on the ball to sort his feet (if he is afforded time he can be clinical) otherwise he is a clumsy, off balance player due to the manner of his gate when he runs. He is not a natural athlete and lacks the physical prowess to prosper at this level. He is probably the worse 9 at heading in the prem and possibly the top two divisions. But he is a tireless team player who is fantastic at creating space for others and he reads the game well.
For me he is a player you bring on to help protect a lead rather than create one.
Rodrigo is just not suited to the intensity and pace of the EPL - he appears rushed in nearly everything he does, his touch often suffers and his passing regularly.
JM will not be sacked before the WC regardless of the results. The board no doubt realise they gave him a bum deal and will try and rectify that during the next window. Let us hope it is not too late. Although they will no doubt be hoping Dallas will be the new LB signing we desperately need.
