Pedestrian killed crossing highway ramp in San Jose
SAN JOSE — A man was struck by multiple vehicles and killed early Saturday morning when he ran across a highway ramp, authorities said.
Officers responded 1 a.m. to an interchange in East San Jose where both the southbound lanes of I-280 and I-680 merge into Highway 101.
The victim, an adult male, had run onto the ramp and was struck by a Toyota Tacoma, sending him flying into another lane, where he was hit by a Honda Accord, California Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the Accord had swerved in an attempt to avoid the man and lost control of the vehicle, spinning out into some shrubs on the highway shoulder, according to the CHP. The car was damaged, but all travelers in both vehicles were unharmed.
The man was declared dead at the scene. Authorities did not release the victim’s identity pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
CHP officials said they did not suspect alcohol or drugs to be factors in the crash. No arrests were announced.
