[Women's Soccer] Hawks Dominate Possession and Attack in Draw with USK
SANTEE, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw with cross-town rival University of Saint Katherine Firebirds on a hot and humid September evening.
SDCC was on the leading edge of the offensive attack from the opening kickoff, but a fluky, pinball USK goal in the sixth minute put the home team behind early. The Hawks would outshoot the Firebirds 6 to 1 after the goal only to have the halftime score remain in USK's favor.
Coach Hidalgo's halftime changes yielded an SDCC game-tying goal less than a minute after the kickoff when Ashley Galvan drove through the middle of the Firebird defense and hit the back of the net with her perfectly placed shot. USK would answer immediately in the next 50 seconds, grabbing back the lead on one of only two shots they would have in the half.
The Hawks were not deterred and re-established an even scoreline at 2-apiece less than 6 minutes later. SDCC freshman midfielder, Angela Scott-Orihuela, would set up her freshman, defender counterpart, Layla Flores for her first collegiate goal.
San Diego Christian would continue to lead the attack until the final whistle, outshooting USK 6-2 in the half, but ultimately the match would end in a draw.
