Classic ‘Guys and Dolls’ showing Friday through Aug. 7
Ghostlight Theatre Ensemble will present “Guys and Dolls” Friday through Aug. 7 at El Campanil Theatre. Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, “Guys and Dolls” is an oddball romantic comedy.
Gambler Nathan Detroit tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer Adelaide laments that they’ve been engaged for 14 years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler Sky Masterson for the dough, and Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown as a result.
“Guys and Dolls” takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong. The musical is directed by Martie Muldoon, with the support of Chuck Phalen, assistant director.
The stand-out cast includes Jared Ramirez (Sky Masterson), Ava Venezia (Sarah Brown), Casey Standridge (Nathan Detroit), Sara Schori (Adelaide), and Bart Schneider (Nicely-Nicely Johnson), supported by a talented ensemble. Music Director Jeff Kumagai, Vocal Director Susan Stuart and Choreographer Noelle Campos round out the creative team that brings the show to life.
Performances will be held at the historic El Campanil Theatre on Friday, Saturday and Aug. 5-6 at 7:30 p.m., and on July 31 and Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $28 for adults, and $24 for seniors and youth. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit http://ghostlightte.org/tickets.html.
