Queen’s unforgettable Jubilee showed the best of Britain – and brilliantly answered one age-old question for royal fans

THESE past four days have been a wonderful celebration of our wonderful Queen, with ­memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime.

The Platinum Jubilee showed the absolute best of Britain — the likes of which we may never see again.

And what a grand finale, seeing Her Majesty on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince William, Kate and their children.

It was the icing on the cake of an extraordinary few days.

I was there for the Silver and Golden Jubilees which were fantastic events, but out of the three, this one has gone above and beyond.

We’ve had so many fantastic moments over this long weekend, starting with four-year-old Prince Louis acting up at the Trooping of the Colour and nearly stealing the show.

We’ve had every kind of celebration, from the ceremonial to the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s, that phenomenal concert outside Buckingham Palace to the people’s procession with that fantastic Jubilee Pageant yesterday. And we even had Paddington Bear.

Whoever came up with the idea of Paddington having tea with the Queen is a genius. She surprised us in 2012 with a sketch with James Bond for the London Olympics opening ceremony and she did it again with this brilliant way of introducing the concert to the world.

For decades, royal experts have wondered what she keeps in her handbag and now we know — it’s marmalade sandwiches!

What a great sense of humour Her Majesty has, and didn’t she look absolutely beautiful? The concert on Saturday night, with the light display on the Palace and the graphics in the sky, was spectacular.

And Diana Ross closing the show was pure magic.

On Sunday, during that unforgettable Pageant, we had everything from “Dames in Jags” to those who worked on the frontline during the pandemic.

We’ve seen tributes pouring in from world leaders like US President Joe Biden and France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, who have such high regard for our monarch.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama talked of the Queen’s warmth and extraordinary kindness while her husband Barack said her life has been a “gift for the world”.

We hoped Prince Harry and Meghan wouldn’t overshadow events, and they didn’t. In fact, we barely saw them.

It was disappointing the Queen didn’t make it to St Paul’s, and the Epsom Derby wasn’t the same without her.

But we had her in our hearts and minds throughout.

The Jubilee showed just how much she is loved and admired. So thank you ma’am, for your 70 years of service and for a weekend — and a monarch — we will never forget.
