Everybody’s Got Glitter
By Yuliana Sandoval, 5th grade student at Momentous School, 2022 ATTBN Junior Reporter
Have you ever made a glitter jar? (Or, have you ever been stressed out?)
On May 4th, Momentous School 5th graders went on a field trip to explore the AT&T Byron Nelson, to act as Junior Caddies on the 7th Tee, and to talk about social emotional health with the PGA Tour Wives Association. We had a great time making glitter jars with them.
You may be wondering what glitter jars are, well let me explain. Glitter jars are great tools to help calm down big emotions, such as excitement, anger, and distress. The glitter jar can help with all of those big emotions. If you focus on the glitter, you can see it swirling around when shaken. This part is representing you feeling all these big emotions, but when the glitter starts to settle, it represents you slowly calming down. You can focus on that and take a couple deep breaths to slow down your heart rate and settle your emotions. The glitter never disappears, because your problems don’t just go away, but it can help you calm down after those emotions.
While we were with the PGA Tour wives, many of them told me that sometimes it feels like their glitter never settles down. They said that the glitter jars were a really great idea because they could use this tool to calm down. I was glad that our project seemed useful to them! They seemed pretty interested in the idea and even told me of other things that make them feel calm, like going to beaches for tournaments. It was a really cool experience to be able to talk with the PGA Tour Wives and be able to relate to a lot of the things they said. I also appreciated their donation of $5,000 to our school! It was really kind of them to give such a large amount of money to our school, it made me feel so lucky!
