Canada trolls Russian diplomat by marking up his letter denouncing a UN resolution condemning attacks on Ukrainian civilians

- Canada's Mission to the United Nations trolled a Russian diplomat by making edits to his letter.
- The letter denounced a proposed resolution against Russian attacks on civilians in Ukraine.
- A Russian diplomat then snapped at Canada on Twitter, quipping that the country isn't on the Security Council.
Canada's Mission to the United Nations on Thursday trolled a Russian diplomat by marking up the diplomat's letter denouncing a UN resolution condemning attacks on civilians by Russian troops in Ukraine.
The letter, written by Russia's UN representative Vassily Nebenzia, urged member states to ignore a proposed humanitarian resolution in regards to Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, and accept its own draft resolution.
Canada's UN representative decided, however, to post copies of the letter to Twitter, and made edits in red ink.
In the edited letter, Canada slammed Russia for being the "primary cause" of war in Ukraine, "bombing schools and hospitals," violating international law, and more.
"Thank you [Russia] for your letter dated March 16. Please see our suggested edits below," Canada tweeted, including a copy of the letter with the edits.

"We want you to know just how little we care about the human life that we have destroyed in Ukraine, and how much disdain we have for you, the membership of the UN, and for this entire institution," Canada said at the end of the letter, mocking Russia for its ongoing bombardment of civilians across Ukraine.
Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia's deputy permanent representative to the UN, lashed out at Canada on Twitter and made fun of the country for not being on the Security Council for over two decades.
"Thank you [Canada] for this kindergarten-level Russophobic libel!" Polyanskiy wrote. "It only shows that your diplomatic skills and good manners are at lowest ebb and gives an idea why your country's bid for a non-permanent seat in #SecurityCouncil was voted down twice in 20yrs by UN membership."
He then added a thumbs-down emoji to conclude the tweet.
Canada's last time as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council was in 2000.
