Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II For Motoyama Racing With Team LeMans
The latest evolution of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 sports car will race in the Autobacs Super GT Series in 2022, as Motoyama Racing with Team LeMans formally announced their participation in the upcoming season.
Motoyama Racing with Team LeMans will field the 2022 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, as the sole Audi Sport customer representative in GT300 this season, following the withdrawal of Hitotsuyama Racing from Super GT. For the second consecutive season, the #6 Team LeMans Audi R8 LMS will be driven by three-time GT500 Drivers’ Champion, Satoshi Motoyama, and 2016 All-Japan F3 National Class title winner Yoshiaki Katayama.
Refinements in aerodynamics, suspension technology, engine performance, and driver comfort consist the biggest improvements made with the “Evo II”, which makes its global racing debut this season. And Motoyama Racing with Team LeMans – who competed last season as “Team LeMans with Motoyama Racing” will look to extract the most of these refinements after a difficult first season in 2021.
Motoyama and Katayama had a 100 percent finishing record in 2021, but scored no points in the drivers’ championship, managing a best finish of 12th place at Suzuka.
“Last year was the team’s first year of competition, so we had many challenges and struggled with the Audi’s unique setup,” Motoyama said. “But this year we have renewed our system, and have already begun testing with the improved Evo II parts.”
“The GT300 class is a fierce competition, and we are keenly aware that it is not easy to even finish in the points, but we will try our best.”
Motoyama will serve as lead driver and General Manager of the team, in addition to his role as Team Principal of B-Max Racing in the Super Formula Championship.
Keigo Ogura will continue as Team Director of the number 6 crew. Kazuya Sakamoto, CEO of financial/technology firm Goldex, will have a more involved role in the management of the team as their Entrant Representative Director. Yoshikazu Kondo has been appointed as Chief Engineer – having previously served in such a role with EIcars Bentley TTO, back in 2017.
