Prince William and Kate mark St David’s Day by visiting Welsh farm
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoyed a visit to a goat farm to mark St David’s Day.
Crowds followed the couple through south Wales today as they toured towns in the area.
The royal visit began at Pant Farm, owned by Gary and Jess Yeomans.
The facility produces milk from dairy goats that are used by local cheese makers.
Baby goats stretched on their hind legs to catch a glimpse of their special visitors, and one cheeky kid even attempted to take a small bite of Kate’s hunting jacket.
As well as getting up close and personal with the farm’s wildlife, the Cambridges also met with farmers to discuss the challenges facing agricultural workers and the impact on the local economy.
The Duke and Duchess then moved onto Abergavenny Market, where they spoke with traders and shoppers regarding the importance of local suppliers to rural communities.
People lined the street and waved Welsh flags as the visit continued through the town.
In the afternoon, the royal couple visited Hwb in the valley town of Blaenavon, a community-focused youth centre.
There, they had the chance to make their own Welsh cakes to mark St David’s Day.
They also spoke with young people who had been directly helped by the center.
Moving onto the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, the pair then took the opportunity to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’ as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, an initiative created to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year reign.
The Cambridges’ visit to Wales will no doubt be a highlight of the week for Prince William, after Wales were narrowly defeated by England in Saturday’s Six Nations match.
Kate, 40, was made the patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) this month.
William would have been less pleased at the final score, however, as he has been patron to the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) since 2016.
Their royal visit to Wales also comes amid reports that the Queen has recovered from Covid-19.
She is said to have enjoyed a small reunion with family, including William and Kate, at Windsor on Sunday.
