EDUCATION DISTRICT II ENDS SCIENTIFIC SCREENING ANALYSIS EXERCISE FOR TEACHERS, STUDENTS

… Seeks Improved Academic Performance

Lagos State Education District II has put measures in place for equitable distribution of subject teachers, addressing issues of underutilised teachers, ensuring appropriate placement of teachers where they are most needed and monitoring the number of students in each school, among others.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, made this disclosure during the final day of the District’s scientific screening analysis and collection of the data of all teachers and students in Ikorodu, Somolu and Kosofe zones of the District held at Maryland, Lagos.

She explained that the exercise, which lasted for several days, was based on the need to redirect manpower and facilities to the most pressing areas, adding that the exercise was also an avenue to evenly distribute teachers

Mrs. Adekanye said that the outcome of the scientific screening exercise would translate into impressive outcomes in teaching and learning, bridge teaching and learning gaps while also addressing the issue of burnout among teachers .

In reference to the excellent results by students of the District in the last West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE), the TG/PS averred that the scientific screening analysis and data collection exercise will sustain the District’s leadership position in academic excellence and even make it surpass the current level of success in subsequent internal and external examinations.

While advocating teamwork among the teachers, the Tutor-General gave an assurance there will, henceforth, be an efficient and equitable distribution of teachers, affirming that the scientific screening analysis and data collection has yielded positive results as some anomalies detected were immediately corrected.

The Permanent Secretary acknowledged and appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for transforming the State’s Education sector to conform with a 21st Century Learning system, just as she also commended the committee members in charge of the scientific screening analysis and data collection exercise for a job well done.

It should be noted that the Scientific Screening Analysis and Data Collection Exercise Committee set up by the District was charged with the task of knowing the accurate number of subjects offered by each teacher, their timetables, hours of subjects taken, number of teachers handling duplicate subjects, complacency on the part of Principals/Teachers, high concentration of same subject teachers’ and their performances.

The committee was headed by the District’s Director of Admin and Human Resource, Mrs. Laide Atunrase, and a Consultant who retired from Education District V, Mr. Adekoya Babatunde.
