'I'm very pleased': Ralf Rangnick praises one Man Utd star after Southampton draw
Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick was full of praise for Jadon Sancho following the club’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Southampton at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils failed to return to winning ways on Saturday as they once again squandered a first-half advantage. Sancho scored his second goal in as many home games in the 21st minute.
However, United could not double their lead before the half-time break. Just like against Burnley, they conceded right after the interval. Che Adams equalised in the 48th minute from a tight angle.
The Red Devils had chances to win the game, but Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster kept the scores level with multiple saves including a superb reflex block to deny Harry Maguire in stoppage time.
Following the game, Rangnick was obviously frustrated with the outcome, but was pleased for Sancho, who has significantly improved his performances over the past few weeks.
He told Manutd.com: “With Jadon’s performances in the last couple of games, I’m very pleased. This is the Jadon we know from the German Bundesliga.”
“There is still more space for improvement in him, but the way he is playing right now, it is probably the best Jadon Sancho that Manchester United has seen so far.”
Sancho joined the Red Devils in a big-money transfer from Borussia Dortmund last summer. Judging by how the campaign has progressed, he has been disappointing.
However, the England star has shown signs of improvement under Rangnick. There has been more direct running lately and he appears to be regaining his confidence.
There is still room for improvement as Rangnick mentioned. The 21-year-old failed to find the back of the net in a one-on-one situation against Forster in the ninth minute.
Against the Clarets, he impressed with his dribbling while cutting inside from the left wing, but his shots were wayward. He should only get better as he picks up his form.
