Club release statement confiming Spurs-linked player failed to agree personal terms
Lewes FC have this evening released a statement to clarify the transfer speculation surrounding the future of Ollie Tanner.
The Evening Standard reported yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur had a six-figure bid accepted for the 19-year-old, with personal terms still to be discussed.
Lewes revealed in their statement that while they had agreed on a deal in principle with an unnamed Premier League club, Tanner was unable to come to an agreement over personal terms and as such, remains with the Isthmian League Premier Division club.
The winger has been training with the Tottenham development squad for the past fortnight and missed Lewes’ match against AFC Hornchurch earlier today due to an injury sustained in midweek.
Some Spurs fans appeared to be unhappy at the prospect of Tanner making the move to north London after historic tweets from the teenager’s Twitter account were allegedly uncovered mocking Harry Kane’s speech and in support for rivals Arsenal (Daily Mail).
The statement read: “Lewes Football Club would like to confirm that whilst the club and a Premier League club agreed a deal in principle for the transfer of Ollie Tanner, Ollie and the Premier Club were not ultimately able to agree personal terms and he remains a Lewes FC player.
“Tanner missed today’s game against AFC Hornchurch due to an injury sustained midweek and we look forward to welcoming him back to the side as soon as he has recovered.”
