I’m A Celeb’s David Ginola reveals he spent a night sleeping on Alan Sugar’s yacht for very bizarre reason
DAVID Ginola once spent a night sleeping on Alan Sugar’s yacht – because the billionaire was terrified the Frenchman was about to get lost at sea.
Sugar came to the I’m A Celeb star’s rescue after they met in France.
I’m A Celebrity’s David Ginola revealed the bizarre reason he slept on Lord Alan Sugar’s yacht[/caption]The pair had met up to rubber-stamp Ginola moving to Spurs, which Lord Sugar used to own.
Recalling what happened David, 54, who is tipped to go all the way on the show, said: “It was 14 July, Independence Day in France, when everybody celebrated with parties and fireworks. All the people go down to the coast for the day and all the roads are very busy.
“I had rented for the day an off-shore boat with two 750 horsepower Lamborghini engines, capable of speed up to 70 knots, and I was just off the beach on the boat with all my friends and family.
“Then the phone call came to say that Alan Sugar wanted me to join him for dinner on his yacht, I knew it would be pointless going by car, so I decided to extend the rental period for another day and go to meet him by boat.”
He added: “When we sped into the bay at Ville-France-Sur-Met it was initially very quiet, but the loud engines of my boat soon broke the silence. I remember I could see Alan Sugar in the distance, standing on his yacht, arms folded, looking out towards this noisy boat coming into the bay…and wondering who was shattering the peace!
“I could see he was furious – he never imagined it would be David Ginola as he expected to arrive by land at the marina. As I got closer he helped me moor my boat alongside his yacht and climb aboard.”
Writing in his memoir, Le Magnifique, David said: “Sugar said to me ‘I was just asking myself, what the hell is going on with these guys coming into the bay in their noisy boat when I am trying to have a quiet time?’.
“After dinner I got ready to go home. But it was dark and Sugar was worried about me finding my way back safely by boat.
“‘You can’t go back like this – you are now a Spurs player and your welfare is very important to me’,” he said.
“Please don’t worry, I said I know the area very well and can find my way back without any problem. I know every single rock in the water.

“But he would not let me go, and he made me and my friend sleep on his yacht that night, so we could return home in the morning when it was light again.”
Last month Sun Online revealed how Ginola could remain on our screens long after the ITV show ends – because he wants to star in movies.
And the footy pin up says he’s already had offers and thinks Brad Pitt and Kevin Costner are the stars most suited to his acting style…
In another section of his book he wrote: “I think I could make it as an actor because I always put myself in the position of someone else and that is what acting is all about, seeing a role through different eyes.
“As it happens, I have already been approached to act in films.”
Explaining the kind of role he’d want the French hunk added: “I would never play the role of someone whose character is the opposite of mine.
“I would have to be close to the role to get into it. I quite fancy myself in films like Dances With Wolves with Kevin Cosnter, or Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt.
“If I wanted to be an actor it would be possible for me to have a go.”
