Kings fall short against Bulldogs
Looking to get back into the win column the Kings would host the Bulldogs who where the last team the Kings got a victory against 2 weeks ago.
It was a very good opening frame for the Kings, as they controlled most of the period and didn’t allow the Bulldogs and major offensive zone time till the end of the period. The Bulldogs would get in some penalty trouble taking 3 minors, however the Kings would fail to convert on any of them, but luck was on their side. With just under 3 minutes left Nathan Small put a dump in towards the goal from the neutral zone and it took a big bounce right in front of Hobie Hedquist and beat him, to take the early lead.
The Bulldogs penalty trouble would continue early in the second with another 3 penalties, but once again the Kings were unable to take advantage but they would get the 2-0 lead from Nic Porchetta who was alone infront of the net an put in the centering pass from Aaron Neal. This goal kicked off a flurry of goals in the period, Kobe Assam would get the Bulldogs on the board less than a minute after then 59 seconds after that, Ethan Leyer would tie the game at 2 for the Bulldogs. After giving up the tying goal the Kings would head to the box for too many men, and the Bulldogs would go to the power play. Just seconds into the Dogs PP the returning Karter McNarland would get the puck at the top of the zone and feed a streaking Hunter Andrew made a great deke in front of Hedquist to get the Kings back in the lead shorthanded. The Kings wouldn’t lead for long as the Bulldogs would score on that power play to tie the game at 3. All 5 goals in the 2nd period were scored in a 4 minute span.
It was tied heading into the final frame, and the Bulldogs took the lead 52 seconds in after the Kings turned the puck over in their own zone, to give up the lead for the first time in the game. The Kings would answer less than 2 minutes later as Caleb Parkhouse put a backhander towards the goal and it looked like Hedquist made the save but again luck was on the Kings side as it trickled in to tie the game once more. It would remain 4-4 until just past the midway mark of the period where the Dogs would score the game winner as their Captain Stephen Castanga potted home a rebound to make it 5-4 which would be the final score.
The Kings would just register 5 shots in the final period and go 0/6 on the power play as they have dropped their last 5 games and now have a record of 7-11-1. The Kings will look for revenge as they host the Bulldogs once again tonight.
