Xavier Arreaga should be back with Sounders soon
Ecuador are eliminated from Copa America.
Just as the Seattle Sounders roster is getting stretched to its limit, some reinforcements should be on the way soon. The first of those will be Xavier Arreaga, who will likely be able to return in time for Wednesday’s match against the Houston Dynamo after Ecuador were eliminated from Copa America on Saturday.
Arreaga should be ready to play almost immediately, as he didn’t log a single minute during Copa America. Arreaga did reportedly suffer an injury in training while away but made the bench in Ecuador’s final two games. He also started both of Ecuador’s World Cup qualifiers immediately prior to Copa America, a pair of losses to Brazil and Peru. In the meantime, the Sounders went 1-0-2 in the three games Arreaga missed.
If there was a bright spot to Arreaga’s absence, it was the emergence of AB Cissoko. The 21-year-old French centerback started all three games while Arreaga was away and looked strong for the most part. The only costly mistake he made in the three games was getting beaten for speed by Cristian Dajome in the Whitecaps game last week.
