Golden State Warriors vs. Philadelphia 76ers News and Notes
The potential 2021 MVP squares off against the back-to-back 2015 and 2016 MVP in a match between one team looking to lock up the top seed and the other just looking to grab a play-in spot.
Joel Embiid is only behind Nikola Jokic at the FanDuel Sportsbook on the odds list as the Sixers big man sits at +270 to win his first career MVP award. The four-time All-Star has led Philly to a 1.5 game lead over Brooklyn as the East’s top seed thanks to a win over the Nets on Wednesday followed up by a victory over a potential NBA Finals opponent in the Clippers.
Embiid put up yet another double-double with a team-high 36 points and game-high 14 rebounds in the 106-103 win over the Kawhi-less Clippers.
Ben Simmons had another tremendous all-around fantasy line with 12 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Like his teammate, Simmons, who also had two assists and two blocks against LA, is the odds runner-up for a major award at the FanDuel Sportsbook. The versatile Sixer is sitting at +240, trailing only Rudy Gobert on the Defensive Player of the Year odds board.
Tobias Harris, who has also been a primary contributor to Philly’s success, did not play on Friday and is questionable tonight with right knee soreness.
While Steph Curry is a ways back on the odds board at +6000 to take the MVP award, he’s been playing like one lately. Curry had led Golden State to four-straight wins before their 119-114 setback in Boston on Saturday. After averaging 41.5 a game during their streak, the Warriors sharpshooter continued the trend hitting 11 triples on his way to a ridiculous 47-point performance.
Curry became the first player since Kobe Bryant in 2012 to have at least 30 in ten straight games at 33 or older. He did tweak his ankle in the fourth and stayed in the game but is questionable tonight. With the Warriors clawing for one of the final play-in spots, it would be surprising to see him miss tonight’s nationally televised game. Check his points props number at FanDuel’s Sportsbook when his status becomes more apparent.
The Warriors have covered in four of five but missed the spread in six straight as a road dog. Philly is 0-4 against the spread in their past four home games, where they were also favored in each game. The Sixers have gone under in seven straight following a failed cover, while Golden State has gone low in their past five Monday games. These teams have hit the under in 13 of 19 head-to-head meetings, while the Warriors have covered just twice in their past 11 in Philly.
