Djokovic, Serena Reach Quarterfinal, Woz & Sharapova For Year-End Championships
James Waterson reports on news from day eight of the US Open. Novak Djokovic reached the quarterfinal after he defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov 7-6 (14), 6-4, 6-2, and he’ll play Janko Tipsarevic, who reached his first career quarterfinal when he beat Juan Carlos Ferrero in four sets. Later on, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ended Mardy Fish’s run when he beat him in five sets. On the women’s side, Serena Williams beat Ana Ivanovic 6-3, 6-4 to reach her first Grand Slam quarterfinal since she won Wimbledon in 2010, and she’ll play Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who beat Francesca Schiavone. Finally, Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova were the first two players to qualify for the WTA Championships, the season-ending event for the top eight players of the year.
