Driver grabs, fires San Jose Police officer’s holstered gun during traffic stop
A police officer sustained a minor injury during a traffic stop in East San Jose in which the driver grabbed the officer’s holstered gun and fired a round.
The incident occurred at 6:42 p.m. Friday near the 500 block of Avalani Avenue, not far from the intersection of King and McKee roads. The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment and released a few hours later, San Jose police Sgt. Christian Camarillo said in an email.
The San Jose Police Department did not immediately respond to a question about whether the injury was from a gunshot wound. No other information was immediately available.
In a tweet, SJPD Chief Eddie Garcia said the car contained “a loaded .40 cal and 46 grams of cocaine packaged for sale.”
Accompanying the tweet, Garcia posted photos of a gun and bags of money that appeared to be concealed inside a Louis Vuitton box.
