Earlier today Boxing Management Korea, better known as KBM or Boxing M, held a title double header in Hwaseong.
The first of those title bouts was KBM Lightweight title fight, as Moo Hyun Kim (6-1, 2) [김무현] claimed the most notable win of his career and over-came Dong Hyun Won (3-4) [원동현], with a 7th round TKO over Won.
Kim was the better fighter through out, dropping his man in the opening round then eventually breaking Won's resolve in the 7th round, right at the end of the round. This was brutal, all action, thrill a minute battling, with Kim just having too much of everything for Won.
The 27 year old Kim has bounced back well since a 2017 loss to Gyu Beom Jeon and this was his third straight win, and his first title win. Sadly for Won the 36 old has now lost 3 in a row and it's hard to imagine him getting another shot at a belt before he hangs them up.
In the other title bout KBM Heavyweight champion Sung Min Lee (7-1-1, 2) [이성민] retained his title with a 10 round majority draw against Hyun Tae Bae (6-1-2, 4) [배현태]. This was very much what fans of Korean boxing have come to expect. It was a war, with both men giving their all, and fighting each other to a stand still. Both men rocked numerous times through the bout as both men showed themselves to be free swinging fighters.
Although we've not got the scorecards for this one we were told that Bae was the winner on one card whilst the other two had the bout even, in what was an exhausting bout for both men.
Interestingly both of these bouts were fought under new rules for KBM bouts. Previously the KBM title bouts were fought under rules similar to the WBC's accidental foul rule. Now however that rule has been scrapped, and a fighter will no loner be deducted a point for an accidental foul They have also stated that the WBC themselves are scrapping the rule going forward.
