Coronation Street shock as Debbie Webster revealed as villain Ray’s secret ally – as actress Sue Devaney explains all
CORONATION Street dropped a bombshell tonight with the reveal Debbie Webster is Ray Crosby’s secret ally on the cobbles.
The scheming millionaire – who is played by actress Sue Devaney in the ITV soap – was nearly outed tonight but lied to her brother Kevin and claimed she had been scammed out of all of her money.
Abi and Kevin swallowed her lies hook line and sinker and Debbie ended up bonding with Abi afterwards, and when Abi told her about how Ray forces women to sleep with him and ruins their lives.
She also filled her in on how Ray blackmailed her and Kevin into selling the garage – leaving Debbie horrified.
Debbie stormed over to the Bistro to confront Ray, revealing she is his ex and that she was furious that he blackmailed her own brother for their property scheme.
However she soon settled when Ray revealed their scheme to put a high rise building in the cobbles was on course.
And she admitted to manipulating Geoff and Alya in the hopes of getting them to sell the house to her firm.
Viewers were in shock at Debbie manipulations but actress Sue Devaney has insisted Debbie thinks she’s doing the right thing for Weatherfield.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: “She’s had to keep it quiet because she didn’t want her brother to find out until it was signed, sealed and delivered.
“She thinks she’s doing everything for the good of everyone else and I think that is what Debbie’s about – she doesn’t do it from a place where she is going to destroy all the houses.”
She added: “Because she has come from that area, she thinks she can make this place so much better than it is and I don’t think she realises the consequence of these people who have lived there all their lives.
“She is going in and ripping down an area.
“I think she really truly believes that she is doing this for the good of everyone else, for an actor we think in feelings rather than facts.
“I have to embrace Debbie’s badness to get an end result and what she thinks will be a good result.
“By putting a high rise there she can bring more jobs, more community spirit and thinking about the bigger picture.”
But Sue has admitted she’s not ready for the backlash of playing Corrie’s newest villain.

“I’m not sure if I’m prepared for the backlash – are we ever prepared,” she said.
“My friend told me to ignore what they are saying about Debbie, I said ‘What are they saying? I’ve not read anything’!
“I’m not a big social media user, so even if they are saying something horrible, I won’t hear it.”
