It's not every day you see discounts on Apple devices, but Amazon Prime Day 2020 is likely to be an exception to that rule if last year is any indication.
During Prime Day last year, you could get a few Apple Watch models and iPads on sale. The discounts may not have been as steep as other products', but for Apple devices, those sale prices were comparatively excellent.
Below, we break down the best Apple deals of Prime Day last year, whether they're on sale right now, and if you should wait to buy that coveted Apple gadget until Prime Day 2020, which is taking place on October 13 until October 14.
If you're not already an Amazon Prime member yet and you're interested in checking it out, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial with full benefits before committing. It's always a good event for tech deals.
When is Prime Day?
Prime Day 2020 starts off on Tuesday, October 13 and runs through to Wednesday, October 14. That's a delay of about three months compared to the usual timing for Prime Day, which typically takes place in July.
Instead of an iPhone, Apple announced new iPads and Apple Watches at its September event, and these are the devices most likely to go on sale on Prime Day.
The iPhone 12 is also being announced on the same day that Prime Day begins, October 13.
Apple deals we expect on Prime Day 2020
Prime Day is always great for tech deals, and even Apple products usually go on sale during the event. We can anticipate what kind of Apple deals to expect on Prime Day 2020 by looking at last year's Prime Day deals. With that in mind, we're expecting a variety of deals on different AirPods models, iPads, and Apple Watches.
We often see Apple's Mac computers get deals throughout the year on Amazon, so we wouldn't be caught off guard if we saw Prime Day deals for MacBook Pros or MacBook Airs. Beats headphones occasionally get Amazon deals, too, so keep an eye out for those.
It's highly unlikely that we will see deals on iPhones or any of the new products Apple just launched in September, like the 2020 10.2-inch iPad and Apple Watch Series 6.
AirPod deals we saw last year
Last year's AirPods deals weren't too great — we only saw $14 off the standard AirPods. There are actually some great AirPods deals happening right now that are way better than what we saw last year.
You can get about 20% off the standard AirPods and the AirPods with wireless charging, which is pretty good. As for the AirPods Pro, we've seen slightly better deals going all the way down to around $200 throughout the year, so you could wait to see what Prime Day 2020 has in store for the AirPods Pro unless you're in a rush.
Apple Watch deals we saw last year
Prime Day 2019 saw decent deals for the Apple Watch Series 4, and we were seeing deals that took $29 to $75 off certain models. This year, the Series 4 appears to be unavailable as it's been discontinued by Apple. The same goes for the Series 5.
Apple is still selling the Series 3, and they're already priced similarly to Prime Day 2019. If you're eyeing the Series 3, the deal may get better when Prime Day 2020 starts, but it's pretty good already. The Series 3 is the lower-cost alternative to the recently announced Series 6 with a wide range of bells and whistles, as well as the Apple Watch SE. The fact that Apple itself is still selling the Series 3 is a testament to its quality and robust set of core features.
We're not expecting significant deals for the Series 6 or the Watch SE this year, as they were just recently announced in September.
iPad deals we saw last year
Previous generation iPad Pros are mostly unavailable now since they've been discontinued, but we saw up to a stunning $430 off during Prime Day 2019. We might see something similar this year, as the latest iPad Pros were released last year.
Otherwise, we didn't see much else for other models, including the standard iPad, iPad Mini, and iPad Air. There's still some inventory of the previous generation 10.2-inch iPad, and the current iPad Mini is currently enjoying a nice deal now.
