Coroner identifies man run over by ambulance while lying in San Jose street
SAN JOSE — The coroner’s office has identified a man who died after being run over by an ambulance as he lay on an East San Jose roadway, but why he was there remains unclear to investigators.
Donald Fisher, 56, of San Jose, was hit early Saturday by an ambulance traveling east on McKee Road toward Regional Medical Center, according to police.
The ambulance was not transporting a patient and did not have its lights or sirens activated when it hit Fisher, who was reportedly lying in the street near El Rancho Verde Drive.
The ambulance crew tried to revive Fisher until a second ambulance took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His death marked the city’s 29th traffic fatality of the year, and was classified as 13th pedestrian death in the same time frame.
