Moment black mother confronts white man erasing her daughter’s BLM chalk message
This is the moment a black mother confronts a white man who repeatedly erased her daughter’s Black Lives Matter chalk message.
Manette Sharick and her three-year-old daughter Zhuri drew the message on the sidewalk in front of their home in Concord, California.
However, the word ‘Black’ was inexplicably erased every morning. It remained a mystery until Sharick’s home security camera caught a white man pouring water over the word to wash it away.
Sharick recorded the moment she confronted the man, identified as Jim, as he poured water in the message, which he said he would continue doing ‘as long as she keeps on doing this.’
‘I was only pouring water across the word black because I believe all lives matter,’ Jim told KGO.
‘I don’t care what nationality, sexual orientation ro any of that, we are all human beings,’ he continued.
In the video, Jim is seen pouring water on the chalk message when Sharick approaches him from behind.
‘Racist ass,’ she yells.
‘You are racist and you’re on my caera too. And I will call the police. Go! Go!’
Jim refuses and Sharick replies, ‘You come prepared with water bottles so you can erase this everyday. You have that much hatred in your hearts against blacks.’
She later posted the video on social media and told CNN, ‘I just wanted to teach my daughter that black lives matter, black culture matters, black communities matter, and that we are the movement for black lives.’
‘I was shocked that someone could be purposefully doing this. It hurt a lot, it made me extremely upset.’
The day after she posted the confrontation, dozens of people showed up in front of her home to scrawl Black Lives Matter and messages of support on chalk.
One of the people who came out was one of Sharick’s neighbors, Israel Samuels, who told CNN, ‘People need to stand with their black neihbors in support. All lives can’t matter until black lives matter.’
‘Right now, black lives are being harmed, murdered by police and they are constantly living in fear.’
Since posting the video, no one has tried to erase the messages in front of Sharick’s home.
‘I am deeply thankful and blessed for the special, unique, and amazing people in my life who supported me uplifted me and comforted me,’ Sharick said.
‘My family and are grateful for the help and support we have received from the community.’
