His Dark Materials season 2 first look revealed as Phoebe Waller Bridge joins the cast
THE first look at His Dark Materials has been revealed as it is announced Phoebe Waller Bridge has joined the cast.
The BBC drama managed to complete filming on all but one episode for the second series – leaving only one standalone episode remaining.
The cast and showrunners got together for a Comic Con virtual panel tonight where Andrew Scott announced that his friend Phoebe would be playing his character John Perry’s daemon.
The actor said of joining the show: “It was really exciting – everyone went ballistic about the first season so you come in and you just don’t want to mess it up.
“It was really brilliant and I got to work with incredible actors.”
He added: “So much of what’s beautiful to me about the books and the series is the relationship with the daemons.
“So I do have a relationship with my daemon – and I think this is the first time we’re revealing this but my daemon is going to be played by somebody who is very close to me in real life who is a young performer and writer called Phoebe Waller Bridge.
“I’m thrilled about that because it’s all about companionship, friendship and loyalty and that’s what I feel about Phoebe in my real life.”
Phoebe will voice a female osprey daemon named Sayan Kötör in the show – but will only feature in a handful of appearances.
Andrew appeared in the second season of Phoebe’s megahit Fleabag as Hot Priest and won a legion of fans.
The second season of His Dark Materials will air on BBC One later this year and will not be delayed by the pandemic.
However the season will run just seven episodes instead of eight with production shut down for a stand alone episode.

The critically acclaimed adaptation of Sir Philip Pullman’s fantasy series is a joint effort from the BBC and HBO and first aired in November last year.
It stars Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua, a headstrong young adventurer who discovers a dangerous secret in a world where humans are joined by manifestations of the human soul that take the form of animals.
During the show’s Comic-ConHome panel on Thursday, fans were given a first look at the upcoming season, which is based on The Subtle Knife, the second book in Sir Philip’s trilogy.
It sees Lyra in a strange and mysterious abandoned city named Cittagazze while Fleabag star Scott makes his debut as the explorer Colonel John Parry.
The trailer warns: “These are strange new times.”
