The Salisbury Poisonings viewers brand Tracy Daszkiewicz a ‘national hero’ for her actions after Novichok attack
THE Salisbury Poisonings viewers have hailed Tracy Daszkiewicz a ‘national hero’ for her actions after the 2018 Novichok attack.
The three-part BBC drama concluded tonight and documented the true story of a nerve agent attack on a man and a woman in the English city in March 2018.
Anne-Marie Duff plays Tracy, who was Wiltshire’s Director of Public Health at the time and took the decision to close local businesses in the wake of the attack.
At the time, her plans were seen as extreme and over the top, but in today’s coronavirus lockdown climate they seem far less radical.
Having watched the decisions Tracy made in exceptional and uncharted times over the last three nights left many viewers full of admiration for her.
Taking to Twitter, one declared: “Why is Tracy Daszkiewicz not in charge of public health right now?
“I know this is a drama but, like, it’s based on reality, and this woman is a national hero, no?”
Another added: “Petition for Tracy Daszkiewicz to get some sort of honour or recognition for being amazing and bloody brilliant at her job!”
A third agreed, writing: “It seems the actual Tracy Daszkiewicz was amazing at her job #SalisburyPoisonings And #AnneMarieDuff is always [clapping hands emoji]. This docudrama is superb in all aspects.”
Speaking about Tracy and the script, Anne-Marie told Digital Spy: “When I was first sent the scripts, I googled her because I didn’t even remember her and there was very little to be found, so the actor’s inner detective, immediately, it whets your appetite.

“But also, as a woman, I can’t help but think…lots of men in suits were recognised, and she wasn’t.
“And I just felt that [co-creators] Adam [Patterson] and Declan [Lawn’s] script, the way that they do just swell her in so much integrity was amazing and a real gift and also she gets to testify, she gets to exist inside of that scenario.”
The Salisbury Poisonings is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
