Protester Erika Baze says she was taking her daughter to “peacefully protest” when Maxwell allegedly jumped out at them.
Video shows Maxwell cutting her off as Baze yelled back and asked her not to film her daughter.
Maxwell had her phone out and was recording their interaction.
Maxwell’s husband interjected pulling her away as she began yelling “I’ll f***cking kill you” while things started heating up.
Baze’s daughter was scared and started crying to which Baze reassured her that the woman was in fact, not going to harm them both.
The video has now gone viral gaining over 2.7 million views. Users who have seen the video have identified Maxwell to the school she teaches at, and have shared her principal’s email address over social media.
Bakersfield’s Superintendent, Doc Ervin released a statement saying that they “do not condone nor endorse the action and behavior captured on the video.”
Maxwell sent out an apology statement via her attorney claiming that she was overwhelmed with anxiety when she heard protesters gathering outside her home, prompting her to react.

She says she had called police about the protesters and even asked them to move away but claims that it “was not shown in the video that was posted.”
She also adds that she is “heartbroken” that any of her students and parents who watch the video may believe that her attitude is a reflection on her values or views of the world.

“Every man, woman and child deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion and equality, regardless of the color of their skin, and every person deserves to live a life free of fear,” Maxwell said.
Baze responded to Maxwell’s apology and stated that she does not see it as a “legitimate apology.” She also added that “‘any child who sees their parents threatened will feel threatened as well.”
Both the Police Department and the school district say that they are investigating the issue.
