Kate Garraway urged to ‘have hope’ amid husband Derek Draper’s coronavirus battle as fans send her uplifting stories
KATE Garraway’s fans have urged her to “have hope” amid husband Derek Draper’s coronavirus battle – sending her tales of people who have made remarkable recoveries.
Derek has been critically ill in hospital since the end of March, with the Good Morning Britain presenter revealing he is in a coma and battling for his life in intensive care.

Several well-wishers today pointed out the story of 58-year-old Laura Barry, who spent six weeks in an Irish hospital – more than four of them in a coma – but left today to applause from staff.
One told Kate: “This lady Laura has been 6wks in ICU and went home. I can’t imagine your fear and pain with Derek in ICU for these last weeks… Sending best wishes to Derek to get well and to you and the kids to keep the spirits up x.”
Another told the 53-year-old star about a man who has been discharged from intensive care after spending more than 60 days in hospital.
They wrote: “I hope this will be you soon, this lady’s husband leaving hospital recently after 62 days of covid treatment. Thinking of you all. xxx.”
Others just offered her their best wishes, with one writing: “Sending love and prayers that hubby recovers soon and wishing you continued strength.
“Just wanted you to know we’re thinking of you at this difficult time.”
One other said today: “Keep staying positive Kate we are ALL behind you and with you along the way xx.”
Kate broke down in tears during last week’s Clap For Carers, saying she feared it would be the last weekly celebration of the NHS.
Referring to her ten-year-old son, she wrote: “Hear this might be the last clap for carers so Billy thought we should get the drums out to go out in style!
“Its been such a source of weekly comfort for them & me & I must admit I felt the tears come to think it’s coming to an end while our fear for Derek goes on.
“But even if we don’t clap next Thursday it won’t diminish my eternal thanks to all in the #NHS. They are keeping Derek alive & every one of them is fighting as hard as Derek is to give us the chance to be reunited.
“Hope has to keep us all going doesn’t it? I am having to find new ways of staying strong everyday for Darcey & Billy, as I know Derek would want me to.
