Trucker who drove into George Floyd protesters released WITHOUT charge after claiming he didn’t mean to
A TANKER truck driver who sped through a crowd of George Floyd protesters on a Minnesota highway has been released from jail after claiming he did not mean to do it.
Prosecutors are still trying to determine whether 35-year-old Bogdan Vechirko will be charged with a crime, according to the Star Tribune.
Vechirko was jailed Sunday on suspicion of assault and held in the Hennepin County jail until Tuesday afternoon.
Video shows the truck being driven toward protesters gathered on I-35W before it came to a stop.
It was “not his fault. … He didn’t mean for it to happen,” relative Art Loghinov told the Star Tribune.
“He didn’t have any intent to harm or do anything bad to anybody.”
The truck’s horn was being blown as it was driven toward thousands of people at around 6pm Sunday, according to witnesses.
The demonstrators were marching toward downtown Minneapolis to take part in ongoing protests over the Floyd’s death.
Floyd died in police custody after Officer Derek Chauvin held his knee over the black’s man neck on Memorial Day.
Chauvin has been fired and charged with murder.
Vechirko was pulled out of the cab and beaten, but a group of marchers intervened and kept him from further harm.
Drew Valle, a special education teacher, told the Star Tribune: “He wasn’t stopping.”
“He was beeping loudly and driving into a crowd of people.
“That’s the same kind of malice that brought us here.
“It’s a callous disregard for someone’s humanity.”
