[Baseball] Theiler Named CoSIDA Academic All-District
Doane Baseball outfielder Andy Theiler (JR/Arlington, Neb.) was named Thursday to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 3 team for his accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the field.
A new format was used this spring for the selection of the team, taking into account career statistics and academic achievements rather than only the current academic year due to the season being cut short.
Theiler was posting a career-year in 2020, exceeding the form that he showed during his freshman campaign when he was a Second Team All-GPAC selection as a utility player. He shared duties at second base in 2019, playing good defense, but was unable to match his performance at the plate from the year before. This year, through 13 games, Theiler was batting .435 (20-of-46) with eight doubles, a triple, and two home runs. He also had a .950 fielding percentage in 20 chances while manning center field for the Tigers.
For his career, in 105 games played, Theiler has a .312 batting average with 21 doubles, two triples, and five home runs. He is also 21-of-24 in stolen bases with 60 runs scored.
In the classroom, Theiler is working towards a degree in biology with a minor in business administration.
He will advance for selection of CoSIDA Academic All-American honors which will be named in a few weeks.
