Noughts and Crosses season 2 – will there be another series?
NOUGHTS and Crosses explores racial differences but in an alternative world where Caucasians are the inferior race.
The first season left viewers desperate for answers, with many wanting to know whether there will be a second season, and if so-when?
Will there be a season 2 of Noughts and Crosses?
There has been no official mention by the BBC in regards to an official follow-up to Noughts + Crosses as of yet.
Ratings for the first season weren’t that high, only 2.5 million tuned in, down on the BBC’s slot average of 3.1 million.
Despite this, Noughts and Crosses appealed strongly to the younger audience, with it being the topic of conversation amongst friends on social media.
Filming of the first season took 16 months, so if production of the second season were to take place in 2020, we would be possibly looking at a 2022 release date.
But with the television industry in limbo due to coronavirus, if there was any production plans for the near future, those would have been shelved for the time being.

What could happen in the next season?
Seeing as the first season was based on the 2001 novel of the same name, it would seem that the second series would follow that trajectory too.
But the twist to this is that at the end of the first season, the TV adaption had a different ending than the one in the book, meaning that the second series will also have to start different.
In a tweet, the author of the book, Malorie Blackman said: ” Just need to clarify something, the TV series doesn’t reach the end of the first N+C book, it only tells three-quarters of the story, fingers and toes crossed that we get to finish telling Callum and Sephy’s story as detailed in the Noughts and Crosses novel.”
This would suggest that in the second season of Noughts + Crosses, the final pages of the book will be brought to the screen and completed.

What happened in season one?
Noughts and Crosses is the on-screen adaption of Malorie Blackman’s novel of the same title.
Set in an alternate Britain, named ‘Albion’, white people (Noughts) are ruled by black people (Crosses).
Within the mix of all this, a Romeo and Juliet type romance develops between a male Nought (Callum) and a female Cross (Sephy), a love-affair that puts them both in danger.
The end of the first season sees the two lovers going on the run, fearing for their lives.
