North Troy Price Chopper to close
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Golub Corporation announced Monday that the North Troy Price Chopper at 865 2nd Avenue will close permanently on Saturday, February 29, 2020.
All 72 employees have been offered comparable positions at one of the company’s nearby stores.
There are stores in Brunswick, Hudson Valley Plaza, Latham and Watervliet near the North Troy location.
“After thoroughly reviewing the store’s current and future viability, as well as the operational challenges related to the floodplain, we concluded that closure is the appropriate action to take,” said Mona Golub, the chain’s vice president of public relations and consumer services.
The City of Troy Commissioner of Planning and Economic Development, Steven Strichman released this statement Monday afternoon.
“Closure of the Lansingburgh Price Chopper presents a unique opportunity to improve the Lansingburgh commercial district and increase public access to Troy’s waterfront. Potential conversion of this suburban-style shopping plaza into a walkable, urban mixed-use district—enhanced by CDTA’s Bus Rapid Transit line and other improvements—will bring further investment to the Lansingburgh neighborhood,” said Strichman.
The City of Troy’s Department of Planning and Economic Development is holding a public meeting on Tuesday, January 28th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Veterans of Lansingburgh, located at 777 1st Avenue. The meeting is the second of two public discussions on future waterfront access opportunities, with a focus on the Lansingburgh Waterfront between 123rd and 126th Streets.
