Argyle man killed, three others injured in Tuesday morning crash
ARGLYE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Argyle Highway Superintendent Bob Humiston was killed Tuesday morning when a car hit his pickup truck in the parking lot of Auction Barn diner parking lot on Route 40.
“Whether it’s coaching little league or whatever for his entire life, he’s just been a very community oriented, very giving person so it’s just a tremendous loss,” said Town Supervisor Bob Henke.
Washington County Sheriff Jeff Murphy said a passenger car was driving northbound on Route 40 around 8:44 a.m. Tuesday when it hit a pickup truck in the parking lot/roadway entrance to the Auction Barn diner.
Humiston, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other passengers in the pickup were taken to Glens Falls and Saratoga Hospitals. Two were later transferred to Albany Medical Center for serious injuries.
“I wish i could say, ‘yes, we’ve got this all set up, but right now i’m just dealing with the alligators and not the swamp,” Henke said.
Henke said he not only lost a friend but half his highway crew as today’s snow fall worsened road conditions. Though Henke said surrounding towns and counties have helped plow the snow for them.
“It’s almost an indescribable feeling of a sense of community,” Henke said. “Not a bit surprising. It’s exactly what you come to expect, but I think every time you’re kind of taken aback,” Henke said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
