Police negotiating with burglary suspect who fled to top of Fremont construction site
FREMONT — Crisis negotiators were talking with a burglary suspect who had attempted to flee police and ended up on top of a building under construction Friday, police said.
The situation arose after a resident in either an apartment or condominium on Warm Springs Boulevard caught an intruder in the act of burglarizing the residence, police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said. The suspect is a male whose age is not known whom Bosques said entered through a window.
The resident screamed after confronting him, prompting an emergency call from a neighbor to police, she said. The suspect darted out of the house and climbed to the top of the building that’s under construction, Bosques said.
No one was initially injured during the drama, but Bosques said there are construction tools at the top of the building that police are concerned about.
Police roped off Warm Springs Boulevard near Brown Road and were negotiating with the person as 1 p.m. approached, Bosques said.
