[Men's Cross Country] Brescia Places 9th at RSC Championship
The Brescia men's cross country team battled chilly conditions and a challenging course to finish ninth overall at the River States Conference Championship at Schenly Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 9. The young Brescia team, which is composed entirely of freshmen, placed ninth in the meet.
"There were multiple hills and it was a cold, wet, and muddy day, which slowed down the whole pack," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.
Benjamin Brown (FR, Memphis, Mich.) and Charlie McCallister (FR, Murray, Ky.) finished back to back, completing the 8k race in 29:55 and 29:58, respectively.
A little under two minutes later, Wes Wheatley (FR, Hawesville, Ky.) finished the race in 31:25, which was an impressive 16 second personal record on the hilly course. Tyler Walz (FR, Hawesville, Ky.) and James Barrow (FR, Elizabethtown, Ky.) finished shortly after Wheatley, running 32:58 and 33:17, respectively, and rounding out Brescia's top five.
Ethan Dooley (FR, Hopkinsville, Ky.) finished as the tiebreaker for the Bearcats, coming through the finish chute in 33:41.
"I'm pleased with how the men's team raced today, especially considering the conditions. The team raced hard on a challenging course, and we even had one run a PR. There are certainly things that we will look to improve on from this meet, but they had a solid performance," said Stoffel.
The Bearcats will take a short break and then begin to prepare for track & field season.
