Arsenal player ratings: Bellerin shows captain’s quality but Torreira anonymous as Gunners capitulate at Leicester
ARSENAL capitulated in the second half at Leicester as the pressure on Unai Emery intensified with the 2-0 defeat at the King Power.
English duo Jamie Vardy and James Maddison gave the Foxes all three points after the break after the Gunners had somehow held it to 0-0 at half-time.
Alexandre Lacazette missed a huge chance in the first half while Mesut Ozil’s return to the first XI failed to provide the creative spark Arsenal fans had hoped for.
The North Londoners remain sixth after the loss and here’s what SunSport’s William Pugh thought of their individual performances in the Midlands this evening.
BERND LENO – 5
Solid first half, good headed clearance when hard to judge on a skiddy surface. Couldn’t do much for either of Leicester’s goals.
CALUM CHAMBERS – 5
Looked accomplished. Couple of vital blocks before half time kept Vardy out and the scores at 0-0 at the break. But was part of the capitulation along with everyone else in the second-half.
DAVID LUIZ – 6
Quiet amid frantic Leicester attacks before the break. Looked more like Luiz of old in the second half as he played out with the ball on occasion and tried to create. Leicester’s attackers simply better than him and his defensive colleagues in the second.
ROB HOLDING (subbed off) – 5
Not bad. Same as Luiz, simply not as good at defending as Leicester were and are at attacking. Hardly a top four club defender so perhaps it’s lucky he is not at a top four club. Subbed off tactically.
HECTOR BELLERIN – 7
Worked his socks off at both ends of the pitch. Involved in a few of Arsenal’s dangerous first-half attacks and helped to keep the scoreline down. Booked for a cynical foul on Vardy late on.
SEAD KOLASINAC – 5
Had a couple of penalty shouts against him in the first half but both were correctly not given. Struggled to keep Ayoze Perez on a leash before the break. Leicester too quick for him in the second half.
MATTEO GUENDOUZI – 5
Meh. Hard to criticise too much as far more experienced players in the team played worse. Lucky not to concede penalty when he hauled down Caglar Soyuncu.
LUCAS TORREIRA (subbed off) – 4
Barely noticed he was on the pitch. Blunted a couple of dangerous looking Gunners attacks in the second half with his indecisiveness. Arsenal will have the upper hand in the reported crunch talks over his future next week after this performance. Hauled off on 80 mins and understandably so.
MESUT OZIL – 5
Quiet. Linked up nicely with Lacazette and Aubameyang during some of Arsenal’s smoother passages of play in the first half. Hardly made Emery look stupid for leaving him out for so long.
ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE – 5
Missed a big chance in the first half. Quiet in the second as his side capitulated.
PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG – 6
Decent in flashes. Just another game that may make him wonder what a player of his quality is still doing with this club in disarray. Obviously isn’t a fan of trophies.
