[Women's Soccer] Bearcats Bested by the Eagles
The Asbury Eagles got everything they needed on a header off of a corner kick 20 minutes into the game, as the Eagles were able to win against the Bearcats, 2-0. The second goal was scored with 13 seconds remaining in the game. The game was moved to West Jessamine High School because of continuous rains that made Asbury's home field too wet for play.
The Bearcats knew they would have a huge challenge from the Eagles entering the game, but that did not stop them from playing a competitive game. Asbury is an excellent defensive team as they limit shots from all opponents, while the Bearcats only had two during the game. But with all the offensive pressure, the Bearcats were able to prevent the Eagles from getting good looks for the majority of the game.
Head Coach Daivid Ralph said, "This game shows once again how far we have come this season. Last year they beat us 6-0. Today we competed very well with an incredibly strong team. The first goal was a corner kick header. We know we cannot give up corner kicks because we simply do not have enough players who can win headers. The Asbury player went up uncontested from 6 yards out."
"We did a much better job after that of just putting a body on them to prevent the free touches. We finally started to move the ball well in the second half, but they really do have a very stout defence and they make every opportunity difficult," added Ralph.
The women's soccer team will be back in action on October 31 against Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA at 5:00 p.m.
