For their final collection of their four-season collaboration to #OutworkTheWater, Hurley and Carhartt have debuted a few new and exciting pieces. Though not often considered in the same thought, workwear and surfer brands have a lot in common. Both Hurley and Carhartt have made names for themselves creating gear that fights the elements. While Carhartt’s specialty lies in cold-weather workwear, and Hurley’s in sunny surf gear, the two share a common middle ground, especially in the winter.

The past three collections have shown that adding wetsuit materials and workwear inspired upgrades to everyday items can be a huge help for either brand, but this collaboration truly hit its stride on the latest collection. It’s often easy to just take an existing silhouette, put some joint branding on it and call it a day, but Carhartt and Hurley went above and beyond for this collection— and that effort is truly on display with the Phantom Defender Jacket. A brand new style for both brands, the jacket functions like a standard chore jacket that you’d see from Carhartt: there’s a lot of utility pockets to hold your stuff, it’s built with stretch that helps you work with ease, and it has a hood to protect you from the elements. But Hurley’s influence makes the entire jacket waterproof, lightweight, and breathable so you can stay dry and comfortable all day long. It’s then topped off with an adjustable fishtail hem for added protection and mobility at the back.

Meanwhile, this vest is immediately versatile due to its reversible nature: lined on one side with a Carhartt-inspired durable canvas, the other side is a Hurley-ready striped blanket lining that instantly adds a bit of character.
