Golden Gate Bridge's Flag Man lets his patriotism show
Just after a car heading north on the Golden Gate Bridge let out a honk, Rob Peterson turned his head and waved his American flag in appreciation.
In one hand he held a nylon American flag slightly larger than a sheet of notebook paper.
[...] he calls himself the Flag Man and has a website to prove it, detailing a life philosophy he summarizes as independent, leaning libertarian, supporting our God-given rights, emphasis on God.
Flexibility is an important consideration, because in February, he and his wife, Becky, moved to Lodi (San Joaquin County) - 98 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge.
Three to five mornings a week, Peterson rises at 4 a.m., reads the Bible and hits the road in his wife's little red Mazda.
Rob Peterson parks in a lot on the north side of the bridge, then does a few pushups and stretches to warm up before heading toward the towers with his flag held high.
Cyclists hugging the roadside railing manage not to hit Peterson as he walks just left of center along the bridge sidewalk.
When he gets to the south end, there's no stopping - he turns around, waves once or twice and heads back.
