Silver and Bronze for YCRC Juniors at BRJC 2019
A total of 45 YCRC juniors competed at the British Rowing Junior Championships in July, coming home with a host of impressive results, topped off by a silver in the J142x omnium and a bronze in the WJ161x.
The Junior Championships combine high-quality side by side racing with, for the younger juniors, the omnium which consists of tests of a set of boat-handling skills that would worry many a senior. Taking place on the Friday, and competed for in singles and doubles, YCRC showed their depth across the board, netted two of the top five positions in the WJ142x, as well as three positions in the top ten for the OJ142x including a fantastic silver medal for Will and James.
On the Saturday/Sunday ten crews and scullers competed in the older age group events and all progressed through the tough time trials to the side by side racing, the majority to the A/B semis and finals. Great York performances across the board included a 5th place in the WJ152x, but the highlight was a wonderful bronze medal for Charley in the WJ161x.
Very well done to our young rowers who did themselves proud on the national stage, and against far larger clubs. A big thank you also to the many coaches that have supported the junior squad in the last year.
