S CLUB 7’s Paul Cattermole shocked First Dates Hotel viewers tonight by appearing on the non-celebrity version – but fails to find love.
While the Channel 4 show has had famous faces visit the London restaurant, former pop-star Paul, 42, took part in the regular version of the hotel series in Italy.
Paul revealed to the camera he “hadn’t had a lot of luck with women” over the years, but was hoping to meet someone special who had a mutual interest in music and performing.
He was paired with Anna, who had no idea he was in one of the most famous pop groups of the late 90s.
As they chatted over dinner, Anna admitted she wasn’t a big fan of pop music.
However, as she asked Paul more about his past, he had to admit he was in S Club 7, and her face in response was quite a picture.
Despite getting on well, when it came to sitting down in front of the camera and saying whether they wanted to meet up again, it was a no from Anna.
She awkwardly said: “I don’t think romantically.”
Possibly hiding the fact he had wanted to see her again, Paul replied: “I didn’t get a feeling from you that there was a spark.”
Anna replied: “I didn’t from you either. We have so much in common, I had a really lovely time.”
As they spoke more, she offered him some words of encouragement, saying: “I do think it would be good if you were more confident.
“You’re a lovely person and I feel like the industry has beaten you around a bit. I feel like you were almost apologising for yourself when you haven’t done anything.”
Speaking alone on camera, Paul responded to her comments, saying: “I’ve made so many wrong choices, I haven’t had a normal kind of life and I hide the real me.”
Paul then teared up, hiding his face from the camera before choking out: “I have to have more confidence and not be afraid.”
His appearance on the show left viewers shocked, with one writing on Twitter: ” I’m shook as IF that is Paul from S Club 7 #firstdateshotel.”
Another added: “Imagine going on a blind date and the guy is Paul from s club 7!! I would die! Then fan girl!”
A third tweeted: “Oh my, I did not notice that was Paul from S Club 7.”

After his date didn’t work out, Paul received an outpouring of sympathy from viewers, who demanded he be brought back for another go.
One wrote: “First dates need to get Paul back and find him someone, he seems such a sweet, nice, down to earth guy. #firstdateshotel.”
