This will be a grand day out adventure incorporating the fresh sea air, traffic free cycle paths and lots of nature.

Meeting: The start point for this ride is the Bootle Leisure Centre, North Park, Bootle, L20 5JJ  Please be at the start point at least 15 mins before the ride start time, (9.45am) ready to ride, so that we are able to get away at the stated start time of 10.05am.

Route: The route begins cycling out towards the coastal path, past the Gormley statues and through Crosby breathing in the fresh Irish Sea air. Continuing on the cycle paths, route 810, you filter through Formby, using the Asparagus route, around the Ainsdale Sand Dunes National Nature Reserve and through the woods, up to Ainsdale itself, where a much deserved refreshment stop can be had in Ainsdale Village. On the return the route ventures back via the loop line NCN62, miles of traffic free paths, to Netherton. From there you cycle along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, past Rimrose Valley Country Park and back to the start.

Note: The route is not fully suitable for road bikes however it is entirely your discretion if you know the surfaces and feel confident to ride on one – the majority of the surface is loose gravel.

We’ll ride at a steady pace of 7 – 10 mph on this ride and we’ll keep our pace at a level so that we can all stay together. Remember, this is not a race, but a leisurely ride at a pace to suit the slowest in the group! Please check your bike over the night before the ride, tyres inflated, all bolts tight, lubricated. Clothing, helmet & lights checked and ready. Please ensure you have a pump and a couple of spare tubes in case of punctures and a good secure lock.
