Meghan Markle Appears to Quietly Shut Down Netflix Rumors With One Telling Gesture
Meghan Markle is telling everyone that the Netflix drama ends here — and it’s quite the power move.
The Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry, were heavily photographed at the Beef Season 2 Montecito Tastemaker event on April 10. That may not seem like a big deal, but it was held at Ted Sarandos house, aka the Netflix co-CEO. Not only did the royal couple look relaxed and casual with Sarandos and his wife, Nicole Avant, but they looked like they had a friendship that goes beyond their business dealings
One glance at the snapshot of the two power couples, and it’s easy to see that they are close. While the women snuggled up to their husbands, they are also holding hands with each other as if to say, “There is no bad blood here.”
This unified moment is in stark contrast to a report published by Variety on March 17, which claimed that Netflix was “done” with the couple after their first $60 million production deal was downgraded to a first-look agreement. While the change in the relationship was more a symptom of the current state of Hollywood economics, the article accused them of blindsiding the network over their interview with Oprah Winfrey.
So, this new photo represents physical evidence that not only are the Sussexes still a part of the Netflix family, but they are also warmly welcomed into the Sarandos home. That didn’t stop the Daily Mail from calling on their body language expert Judi James to decode what Meghan was feeling, which they described as an “exaggerated show of friendship.”
“Meghan’s exaggerated, displayed attachment rituals here look aimed at showing there is no ‘beef’ between her and Netflix,” James claimed. “The way the Sarandoses continue their couples’ pose in the lineup makes it look almost as though Meghan is photo-bombing their pose.”
That might be James’ interpretation of a moment in time, but Sarandos has never wavered in his loyalty to Harry and Meghan. In March 2025, he told Variety:
“We’re a passive partner in Meghan’s company, and it’s a big discovery model for us right now,” the studio executive praised them. “I think Meghan is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture. When we dropped the trailer for the Harry & Meghan doc series [in 2022], everything on-screen was dissected in the press for days.”
“The shoes she was wearing sold out all over the world,” Sarandos continued. “The Hermès blanket that was on the chair behind her sold out everywhere in the world. People are fascinated with Meghan Markle. She and Harry are overly dismissed.”
A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex told People in March 2026 that the couple continues to be “grateful” for the opportunities given to them by Netflix. So, for now, this unscripted drama seems to be over.
