Contact made: Man Utd have just entered talks to sign 28-year-old star, decision soon
Manchester United are planning another spending spree during the summer transfer window.
The primary focus will be on the defensive midfield department, but the Red Devils could also seek to reinforce their backline.
A new centre-back and left-back could be signed. For the former of those positions, United are lining up a move for Marcos Senesi.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, his agents are already in ‘close contact’ with United.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also among the leading contenders to sign the Bournemouth centre-back.
The Argentine is expected to decide on his next club in the near future.
His current Bournemouth contract concludes at the end of June.
Senesi would be a good deputy for Lisandro Martinez
The 28-year-old has been a key player in the heart of the defence for the Cherries.
He has been exceptional defensively with five duels and two tackles won per league game this campaign.
Senesi has also made seven clearances and four recoveries per outing for the South Coast outfit.
The Argentine is not necessarily known for his passing accuracy (78 per cent), but would still be a good recruit.
Lisandro Martinez has had several injury concerns at United, and the club can’t go into next season without a proper left-footed centre-back as back-up.
Ayden Heaven has shown glimpses of his potential with the first team, but United may want an experienced deputy.
Senesi would be ideal for the position, given his vast Premier League experience and strong defensive attributes.
The 28-year-old is in the prime of his career and would be a huge bargain signing on a free transfer agreement.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also on the trail, but Champions League football could be a key deciding factor.
Spurs won’t be in Europe next season, while Chelsea are already four points behind the final Champions League position in the league.
United are comfortably placed in third in the standings, seven points ahead of the Blues with another seven games left in the campaign.
The Red Devils should have a clear edge over the London duo in the pursuit of Senesi.
