John Nolan, ‘Batman’ and ‘Person of Interest’ Actor and Uncle of Christopher Nolan, Dies at 87

John Nolan, the veteran stage actor with roles in two “Batman” films and “Person of Interest,” died Saturday. He was 87.

Nolan is the uncle of Jonathan and Christopher Nolan. The news was first reported by the Stratford-Upon-Avon Herald.

The actor was one of the first students at London’s Drama Centre. Per the newspaper, his first role was cast Romeo at the Richmond Theatre before he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for two years.

Nolan’s career then took a pivot and he took on the titular role in the 1970 miniseries “Daniel Deronda.” He was also cast in four movies directed by his nephew, Christopher Nolan: 2005’s “Batman Begins,” 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” 1998’s “Following” and 2017’s “Dunkirk.”

He was also cast in 2013’s “Person of Interest,” which was created by Jonathan Nolan (who co-wrote “The Dark Knight Rises”).

Nolan’s credits also include “Bequest to the Nation,” “Terror” and “The World is Full of Married Men,” as well as “General Hospital” and “Enemy at the Door.”

John Nolan was born May 22, 1938. In addition to his nephews, he is survived by his wife Kim Hartman, their children Miranda and Tom, and grandchildren Dylan and Kara.
