Arson suspected after blaze at N.D.G. commercial building overnight
Montreal police are investigating a suspected arson in the early hours of Saturday morning at a commercial building in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
Around 1:15 a.m., police received a call regarding an alarm at a two-storey commercial building on Somerled Ave,, near Bessborough Ave., according to Johany Charland, a Montreal police spokesperson.
“When police arrived, the Montreal fire department was already bringing the fire under control,” Charland said.
One or more suspects broke into the second floor of the building, she said, setting fire to two commercial offices and then fleeing before police arrived. The building sustained significant damage.
No arrests have been made as of Saturday morning, Charland said.
Incendiary materials were found at the scene, she added.
The investigation has been transferred to the police arson unit, which is continuing to investigate.
Officers will remain at the scene through Saturday, trying to determine the circumstances of the incident.
