Match Report: Horsham
After the excitement of the Stones beating Hornchurch 5-4 on Easter Monday, it was no surprise that George Elokobi named an unchanged starting line-up. The result means that Maidstone are two points outside of the playoffs with Weston-Super-Mare two points ahead of them in eighth. The Stones will be hoping that Horsham can do them a favour on Tuesday night when the Seagulls play their game in hand against the Hornets.
On 12 minutes, Riley Court was fouled by Lee Harding just outside the box. Court took the resultant free-kick and his curling effort went just over the bar.
Play quickly swung to the other end. Charlie Hester-Cook’s low shot was well turned behind by Lenny Holden for a corner. This was taken by Harvey Sparks and he picked out Hester-Cook who was in space but he couldn’t direct his header on target.
Apart from a booking for Hamzad Kargbo after he slid in to challenge Lewis Carey, there was nothing else of particular note in the first half. And at half time, Kargbo was replaced by Jamie Yila.
The game continued in a similar manner after the break. On 73 minutes, Leo Hamblin slid the ball down the line to substitute Yila. Yila did well to pick out George Fowler with a cut back cross and Fowler drew a flying save from Lewis Carey.
Ten minutes from time, substitute Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong put a corner from the right into a good area. Fowler reacted quickest and his stabbed effort went wide. Unfortunately for Berkeley-Agyepong, his season appears to be over as he was carried off late on in this match.
As the game moved into stoppage time, the Stones created one final opportunity. Leo Hamblin crossed for Sam Corne and his shot deflected wide of the right post.
